About Rene Bissohong – Founder of The Nubian Princesses
Rene Bissohong is the Emmy-nominated founder of The Nubian Princesses, a brand created to inspire, educate, and empower young Black girls through dolls, books, and stories that celebrate identity, heritage, and self-love.
Her journey began after a powerful encounter with a little girl who wished to change her skin colour and hair. Determined to shift the narrative, Rene spent seven years developing the first Nubian Princess, Kiraa, before expanding the collection into books and more dolls, each carrying a story of pride and empowerment.
Before entrepreneurship, Rene worked as a broadcast journalist with the BBC World Service, producing documentaries and children’s programmes that gave voice to underrepresented communities. She has won multiple awards, including the Black Excellence Award and recognition for her films and documentaries.
Rene’s mission is clear: to help the next generation of girls see themselves as leaders, dreamers, and change-makers.
